NSW Government is on a journey to digitally transform for the benefit of its Citizens.

A challenge was created, known as the NSW Hackathon and sponsored by the Minister for Customer Service, the Hon. Victor Dominello :

“Governments have to be brave enough, humble enough, and caring enough to ask for feedback in a way that is intuitive and easy – then act on this feedback to improve services” EngageNSW Hackathon – ServiceNow is running a hackathon on 29th October in partnership with The Minister and the Department of Customer Service for NSW to seek ideas on how to engage better with government.

The brief is simple:

Create innovative new ways for Government to engage with the community and deliver a better citizen experience.

The early start didn’t phase our team who prepared to hack the brief and create a useful app.  Partnering with WaterNSW, Enable presented a framework focused on solving the problem statement below:

“How can we consolidate data sources, close the loop on community sentiment, highlight key issues and provide action with transparency for all citizens?”

After an intense building session and initial presentations, the 5 finalists were announced.

  1. Pandas – NSW Police
  2. Enabling Engagement – Enable Professional Services Partnering with WaterNSW
  3. DPIE in the sky – Department of Primary Industry and Environment
  4. Coasties – Central Coast Council
  5. TM LAbS

The teams battled it out presenting clever and innovative ideas such as “kids skate park locator app” and a “water catchment area locator.”

The win, however, voted by a panel of judges including; David Oakley, Vice President and Managing Director ServiceNow Australia,  the Hon. Victor Dominello MP, Minister for Customer Service, amongst others but the first place voting was unanimous and Enable took out yet another award.

Paul Thomason, Director of Strategy and Innovation mentioned,

“I am so proud of the Enable Professional Services team winning at the engage NSW government hackathon yesterday. Thanks to NSW Water who provided the team with key insights.”

Mark Galgsdies – Organisational Change Manager

  • October 27, 2019
  • by Nicole Bailey

Mark joined Enable Professional Services in a newly-created Organisational Change Manager role in early 2019.

He is a military veteran, having spent 8 years, in the early days, as an Air Force Education Officer before embarking on a 25-year career in training, development and organisation change across a wide range of sectors, including:

  • Banking/Finance
  • Oil/Gas/Mining
  • Construction
  • Government and TAFE
  • IT
  • Defence contracting

Mark has a number of awards and recognitions from his time as an officer in the RAAF and since, including:

  • Australian Defence Medal
  • Justice of the Peace in NSW
  • Various internal innovation and staff recognition awards

His experience spans the full spectrum of teaching, education, training and Organisational Change Management:

  • High school maths and science teacher
  • Education Officer RAAF – training, training management, instructional design, lecturing
  • National Training and Development Manager
  • National Sales Training Manager
  • Organisational Change Consultant

Mark joined Enable after meeting with the Senior Management team. He commented,  “The recognition, by Enable, of how important Organisational Change Management (OCM) is in driving customer successes in their ServiceNow implementations AND creating this specific, new role to bolster our capacity to do so spoke volumes to me about how seriously Enable takes OCM, and training and adoption.

It’s a real honour and privilege to be the first person in this role at Enable. To be given the opportunity to take all the good things Enable’s already done in the training space and broaden that to include OCM and Adoption solutions for clients is hugely important.”

Mark is inspired by a quote from an American philosopher:

He stated “In times of drastic change it is the learners who inherit the future. The learned usually find themselves equipped to live in a world that no longer exists.”

In my roles over the years as teacher, trainer, manager, coach, and more recently organisational change manager this quote resonates with me more and more strongly every day. It talks about life-long learning and in my role I get to create and drive these learning opportunities for large numbers of customers whose staff are going through lots of work changes.

On the weekends you will find Mark at the beach or on Sydney Harbour with his family, gyming with his wife, stand-up paddle boarding, or out running with his dogs!

1) Diwali is an important religious festival originating in India.

2) Diwali takes place annually and lasts for five days, marking the start of the Hindu New Year.

3) Diwali is a celebration of lights and legends –– Diwali is also a time to have fun with friends and family! People exchange gifts and sweets, enjoy delicious feasts, watch firework displays and wear new clothes. It’s a time to clean and decorate your home, too.

4) Rangoli is a popular Diwali tradition –– beautiful patterns made using colourful powders and flowers. People draw rangoli on the floor by the entrance of their homes to welcome the gods and bring good luck!

5) Globally our Enablers really know how to throw a great party celebrating the festival of the lights.

In Australia, we enjoyed Diwali pot luck style lunches with all team members sharing a meal. In Melbourne and Sydney, team members dressed in ethnic dress and shared a traditional lunch of home made curries, rice, roti, and pani puri. A full-on spice, colours and flavour explosion.

In  India, we had Diwali celebration on Thursday (Noida) and Friday (Bangalore).

This year the theme of Diwali celebration was “This Diwali do something different”.

Our Bangalore team used their creative touch to product gorgeous Rangoli and a welcoming entrance with fresh flowers.

The Noida team went above and beyond by attending an orphan centre and spreading happiness to children in need.

Team members decorated the entrance of the Noida and Bangalore offices with rangoli made of flowers and candles to welcome the gods and bring good luck for the year to come. Then team members celebrated Diwali with some games and decoration competition and ethnic dress day.

Perth Running Festival and the Smith Family

  • October 10, 2019October 14, 2019
  • by Nicole Bailey
Our Enable Professional Services Perth team completed this year Perth Running Festival on Sunday 6th October.

Right now, in labs in Perth, hundreds of scientists are working towards the next medical breakthrough.

Supporting this event allows the Harry Perkins Foundation to plan for big goals, like making cancer non-lethal, discovering disease genes that give families answers they so desperately need and finding treatments for heart disease. It supports brilliant minds at work with the best interests of your family and loved ones at heart. And provides researchers with stability and security so that they can focus solely on lifesaving research.

The breakthroughs Perkins researchers are making in the labs will lead to potential cures. Without research, there are no new treatments, no advances in medicine, no chance of finding that one thing that will stop a disease in its tracks.
Enable, through it’s Corporate & Social Responsibility program, raised some much-needed funds for the Harry Perkins Foundation, Since 1998, the Perkins has grown to become one of the nation’s leading adult medical research centres, where a close-knit teams of more than 450 research and trial staff work together to defeat the major diseases that impact our community.

If you missed the event, you can still help by visiting https://lnkd.in/gyCH4zQ.

Finishing on the hallowed turf and shown on the big screen. A great day out and for such a good cause.
Our team including Darren Everett, Graham Strydom, Nino Gonzales, and supported by Swity Patal (and her baby bump) aimed to help raise awareness for the amazing work The Harry Perkins Foundation are embarking on.
Thanks to the Perth team, our customers and all who contributed to fundraising or supporting on the day.

The Importance of OCM in Projects Management

  • October 4, 2019December 5, 2019
  • by Nicole Bailey

OCM is about driving user engagement and adoption. It’s about helping people use a new tool or leverage a new process that’s being implemented.

OCM is important for all projects, be they digital or otherwise, employees and management alike, risk project failure if OCM is not carefully considered and included in any business transformation.

What is OCM?

Change management can mean different things to different people and different organisations. Some people regard it as migrating your technology from one region to another. Others consider change management as a process to manage to change scope, budgets, or timelines. Enable’s approach to Organisational Change Management (OCM) has a laser-like focus on supporting the people side of our clients’ ServiceNow implementations. Our OCM, adoption and training services align with The Enable Way – our project delivery methodology.

We know that implementation occurs before, during and after Go Live. We also understand the importance of continued people support beyond go live, through hyper care and warranty periods. Mature organisations pay particular attention to supporting their staff 3, 6, 9 months or more after the implementation has moved from being a Project to being Business As Usual (BAU).

“75% of your project’s ROI comes from when people use and interact well with a new tool or process”

OCM allows you to realize your ROI for adopting new tools and processes. While these tools and processes are vital, you don’t gain anything as a business if people aren’t using them. In fact, a commonly reported statistic states that two-thirds of projects fail not because of technology but because of poor adoption. When projects fail to meet business objectives, scope, and timeline, they ultimately fail to deliver the desired ROI. Meanwhile, approximately 75 per cent of your ROI can be found when people use and interact well with a new tool or process, according to Prosci.

These numbers show how important OCM – and active change management in particular – are to any project success. In the end, OCM gets people ready, willing, and able to accept new ways of working to ensure project success.

Why do you need OCM?

You probably already noticed that we believe OCM is vital for any project. However, this is especially the case for application modernization or cloud computing, where organizations need to prepare for large-scale disruption.

By modernizing your applications, you’re changing the entire way that your IT organization operates. Ideally, you achieve greater velocity in your application lifecycle, focusing on coding, integrating applications across environments, and transforming your infrastructure. In the end, you want to get more out of your data, break down data silos, and ultimately improve the consumer experience.

To achieve that objective, your people need to believe in the project and be able to work in a new way. Their daily tasks are going to change. While automating cumbersome, manual processes will allow people to focus on more important tasks, they need to understand the benefit of this effort. They also must adapt to the new ways of learning and will likely pick up new skills along the way.

Why OCM matters for application modernization

Application modernization is particularly difficult because it’s such a large-scale change. The IT organization as a whole will have to change how it operates, and the results can go beyond there. In these cases, you’re seeking buy-in from multiple groups before things go live. And without that buy-in, your projects are doomed to fail.

However, these difficulties can be overcome with OCM. According to Prosci, projects with change management are six times more likely to meet or exceed expectations. This is especially true of transformative work like digital platform modernisation, where you focus on maturing your people, processes, and technology with the use of ServiceNow. You can’t launch a new way of working and new platform while expecting it to add value to your business in a real way. The true value is in bringing your people with you to use new systems and processes to their full capabilities, create efficiencies, and reduce pain points.

How do you execute OCM for application modernization?

OCM is important for all project, digital and otherwise. Enables proven methodology, whilst customised for each project, holds true across a range of projects.

Our approach has four distinct phases:

  • Set the parameters, build the foundation, and provide the rationale (the why) for the change.
  • Identify the key stakeholders for the project and work through a communications strategy. This strategy aims to take people from awareness of the change to overcoming resistance points to knowing what they need to do.
  • Build a training strategy for those impacted. Training should be meaningful and fit in with their way of working. You want to overcome the adoption risk of people not using the new technology.
  • Establish how this change will continue over the long-term. Adoption isn’t enough – your goal is continued use. People have a natural tendency to revert to old ways of working. You also want to overcome the sustainability risk of people reverting to old methods. ( Source)

Get the Key stakeholders and IT on the same page

With OCM for application modernization, the reason behind the change may differ.  Communicating with both IT and the business stakeholders and the end users/rest of the company is key, especially because modernizing your applications is such a large shift. Large-scale change means that everyone will be impacted in some way, OCM can esnure that the impact is low but the results are positive. As a result, you will have key stakeholders throughout the company invested in project success, Key Milestones, and ensuring alignment is critical. After all, active and visible executive sponsorship is the number one contributor to success for any initiative.

The importance of OCM

OCM is crucial for projects generally. But considering large-scale changes such as a ServiceNow Implementation and platform change, this is especially true. All your team must change the entire way they work, communicate and manage their day to day workloads – and employing a significant change management plan will likely yield a successful outcome.

Enable provides clients with the tools and support that assist with embedding and measuring the adoption rates of the new ways of working. In the end, you not only want this change to be adopted at the time of implementation, but you also want sustainable change that will benefit the business and your staff. Sustainability allows your organization to deliver the business benefits of working in a modern environment over the long haul.

We are really proud of the CSR initiatives we get behind here at Enable, and none more so that The Smith Family.

At Enable, we are focused on investing in a child’s education, helping them break the cycle of disadvantage. That’s why Enable partners with The Smith Family.
By giving young Australians the extra support they need to fully participate in their education, we can prevent them from experiencing a lifetime of poverty.  We love working with The Smith Family towards our shared vision of a better future for young Australians in need.

This year we were invited to attend the “Great Big Thank You” event, where The Smith Family celebrate the organisations that support them throughout the year. Organisations just like Enable Professional Service.

The Smith Family like to show their supporters how their generosity and support makes a lasting difference to the lives of young Australians living in disadvantage. Because of the support, these little heroes can realise their potential and create better futures for themselves.

Our Perth Enabler Darren Everett attended, Joined The Smith Family CEO, Dr Lisa O’Brien, and Smith Family ambassador and 2019 Australian of the Year, Dr Craig Challen SC OAM. Craig was part of the international team that helped rescue 12 boys and their soccer coach from a flooded cave in Thailand in 2018.

Darren left feeling inspired by the event even saying, “WOW, what an inspiring event. Youth are our most valuable resource, and we need to nurture them.  It’s our job to break the cycle and make sure they are successful, I couldn’t be prouder of the support that Enable are able to provide to the next generation.”
