Celebrating Women in Tech

  • March 4, 2021March 4, 2021
  • by Rachel Sparkes

Today is International Women’s Day. A day to celebrate women and note the progress we have taken in the technology industry.

The technology industry still has a way to go toward equality – particularly for women in leadership.

According to the ABS in 2020, the technology industry in Australia has 26% female participation which is lower than the 47% of female representation in the workforce in general.

A recent study in 2020 showed that Silicon Valley senior leadership roles were only held by 5% of women.

TOP BARRIERS:

According to the International Women’s Development Agency, there are four top barriers women face to enter leadership:

  • Conservative beliefs around womens roles
  • The threat of physical and sexual violence
  • Structural inequality
  • Lack of funding for women-led organisations

At Enable we are challenging the barriers and beliefs for female participation in technology roles and leadership in technology.

We are proud to have the following workforce:

  • 27% of females in technical roles
  • 50% of females in our most senior leadership roles in Australia

These senior female leaders represent diverse groups such as single mothers and women of colour, leading to inclusive perspectives, processes and policies at the very top of our organisation.

HOW ARE WE CREATING CHANGE:

At Enable, we know that women are more likely to ‘self-select’ out of leadership development programs and promotions at higher rates than their male colleagues in the middle layers of their careers.

Therefore, our leadership structures, succession planning and promotion processes are designed to remove these barriers for our future female leaders as they progress in their careers.

So how do we stack up against the tech giants of the world? Consider Microsoft: In October 2018, the company reported that women comprise 29.1 % of its workforce, but only 16.6% work in technical positions and just 23% hold leadership roles. Twitter said women fill 10 % of its technical jobs, with 21% percent in leadership. And women “Googlers” account for 17% of the search giant’s tech jobs, while only 21% manage others.

According to Forbes magazine, women influencing product development and business strategy — the two rungs at the top of the industry’s corporate ladder – is good for business. Studies show that companies with different points of view, insights and approaches to problem-solving have higher sales, more customers and larger market share than their less-diverse rivals.

At Enable, we strive to be a people-first business, and we know diversity and equality is good for business and good for each individual.

We are pleased to have a strong representation of female senior leaders and will continue to have programs to attract more females into our technical roles and to all leadership levels in our business to continue to create our competitive edge and opportunities for all.

Tech sector & Government back Australian SME’s

  • March 24, 2020April 7, 2020
  • by Nicole Bailey

Tuesday March 24th,  the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) went live with a new website (built by Enable on the ServiceNow platform) to help Australian businesses through the current challenges of continuing operations as employees work from home.

The site was launched by two Federal Ministers and the AIIA Tuesday morning. It will act as a hub for organisations to get help and support, including access to offers of free services from tech companies affiliated with AIIA.

The Morrison Government welcomes the launch of a new website brought together by the technology sector to support Australian businesses with staff working remotely during the COVID-19 outbreak. Australian Business Continuity – by the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) and its technology partners – provides free practical tools to support the continuity of Australia’s small-to-medium businesses, including advice on how to best use teleworking services.

Read the full release on here

The new hub sees industry working together to keep our businesses running, with the AIIA partnering with Microsoft, Cisco, ServiceNow, Adobe, Telstra, Google, Facebook, SAP, Salesforce and others to provide guidance and free access to tools for video-conferencing, virtual meetings and other remote business services.

The development of the site, www.australianbusinesscontinuity.com.au/aiia, took four days and was completed remotely by three different business in six different locations in two countries by a team of developers and partners, many of whom have never met before.

AIIA’s new hub complements business.gov.au – the Government’s existing comprehensive website for small to medium enterprises. business.gov.au is a whole-of-Government digital entry point for information, services and support to help businesses succeed in Australia, simplifying access to important information, tools and advice across all levels of Government, particularly during this difficult time.

Here at Enable Professional Services, our team worked tirelessly with AIIA and ServiceNow to provide this valuable website to support small/medium businesses across Australia, and we couldn’t be prouder.

Enable CEO, Bruce Hara, is delighted Enable Professional Services could help AIIA support businesses to keep operating and keep staff employed. He hopes the project also shows how the ServiceNow platform makes remote working so much easier. ‘We delivered a highly effective public website within four days. But our team never met the AIIA or ServiceNow teams face to face, at any point of this project. What’s more, all of our team worked from home, not from our offices. Using many of the platforms and services showcased in this site, in an urgent timeframe, we can get a service up and running from wherever we are, and wherever our client is. This outcome is what many organisations will be seeking,’

Bruce Hara,

Chief Executive Officer, Enable Professional Services

“Within a short space of time, an idea turned into a plan that became a project that turned into a solution that would hopefully benefit many Australians yearning for business continuity. Enable Professional Services were critical to this and their name was a true testament to what they do and that was to enable the idea to come to life. What was truly inspiring was the way the entire team managed to work remotely and virtually without missing a beat. No traffic jams, planes to catch or meeting rooms to source. With a couple of clicks, we were all in one virtual place, collaborating and getting the job done. The experience was a terrific one.”

Christmas Giving with Enable

  • December 19, 2019December 19, 2019
  • by Nicole Bailey

When we formalised our partnership with The Smith Family in Q1 of this year, locking in the sponsorship of 80 primary school kids, I have to confess, it felt pretty good.  I knew then that we would be making a huge difference to the lives of these underprivileged children and their families, breaking the cycle of poverty through education.

What I did not know then, was the chain reaction of great things that would be set off by going through this process.

The Smith Family partnership became the foundation of our greater Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.  Once this primary partnership was locked in, we then set about engaging a team of like-minded Enablers to meet regularly and coordinate CSR activities for every office in our organisation, with the aim of creating a culture of being connected not just to each other, but to our communities as well.  Through our CSR program, I’m proud to say we don’t just talk about CSR, we show up!

In the last 9 months alone, whilst growing our business and looking after our customers, Enablers have also been:

  • Walking for RSPCA in Adelaide,
  • Running for The Smith Family in the Blackmores Running Festival in Sydney
  • Preparing meals in the FoodBank kitchen in Brisbane
  • Kickboxing for underprivileged kids in Hong Kong
  • Growing a beard for BeyondBlue in Perth
  • Preparing meals in the Willing Hearts Soup Kitchen in Singpaore
  • And filling 18 shifts in The Smith Family’s Christmas Appeal across Australia

Seeing the photos of our amazing people out in their community making a real difference to the world around them is something that makes me so proud to be an Enabler, and a CSR Champion.  On behalf of Enable’s Corporate Social Responsibility Committee – Merry Christmas!

Enable Adelaide volunteer at RSPCA

  • November 21, 2019
  • by Nicole Bailey

On the 15th Nov 2019, our Enablers in Adelaide spent 4 hours volunteering at the RSCPA shelter in Lonsdale.

The RSPCA shelters provide a loving and caring temporary home for vulnerable animals.

They have three shelters across South Australia – at Lonsdale, Port Lincoln and Whyalla –  who care for thousands of injured, neglected, sick, surrendered and unwanted animals each year. The shelters are a haven for animals that have been abandoned, lost, surrendered or have been victims of cruelty or neglect. All RSPCA South Australia shelters promote, support and facilitate animal adoptions.

Enable donated $500 and spent the time assisting with charitable activity impacting their local community. Our team members Bhavisha Keshwala, Rajat Agarwal, Paul Austin and Nikhil Bhalla spent the time in the warehouse sorting and folding the donated blankets and towel, playing with animals and cuddling the friendly dogs.

Bhavisha, who arranged the activity mentioned:

“It was an awesome event we went to RSPCA shelter home , we saw how they are managing everything there. The team there is dedicatedly doing everything.

They have some volunteer programs too and I am planning to be the part of that program… Also after visiting the shelter home I am planning to adopt a rabbit and a puppy ?

Our ServiceNow architect Paul Austin almost adopted a dog on the day.

Diwali Celebration at Enable

  • October 25, 2019November 4, 2019
  • by Nicole Bailey

5 facts about Diwali

1) Diwali is an important religious festival originating in India.

2) Diwali takes place annually and lasts for five days, marking the start of the Hindu New Year.

3) Diwali is a celebration of lights and legends –– Diwali is also a time to have fun with friends and family! People exchange gifts and sweets, enjoy delicious feasts, watch firework displays and wear new clothes. It’s a time to clean and decorate your home, too.

4) Rangoli is a popular Diwali tradition –– beautiful patterns made using colourful powders and flowers. People draw rangoli on the floor by the entrance of their homes to welcome the gods and bring good luck!

5) Globally our Enablers really know how to throw a great party celebrating the festival of the lights.

___

In Australia, we enjoyed Diwali pot luck style lunches with all team members sharing a meal. In Melbourne and Sydney, team members dressed in ethnic dress and shared a traditional lunch of home made curries, rice, roti, and pani puri. A full-on spice, colours and flavour explosion.

___

In  India, we had Diwali celebration on Thursday (Noida) and Friday (Bangalore).

This year the theme of Diwali celebration was “This Diwali do something different”.

Our Bangalore team used their creative touch to product gorgeous Rangoli and a welcoming entrance with fresh flowers.

The Noida team went above and beyond by attending an orphan centre and spreading happiness to children in need.

Team members decorated the entrance of the Noida and Bangalore offices with rangoli made of flowers and candles to welcome the gods and bring good luck for the year to come. Then team members celebrated Diwali with some games and decoration competition and ethnic dress day.

A huge thank you to all social coordinators for your assistance in creating such a colourful and inclusive event. *Niharika, Chethan, Avinash, Utsav, Manish, Shreya and Sonali

Great Big Thank You – The Smith Family

  • October 3, 2019
  • by Nicole Bailey

We are really proud of the CSR initiatives we get behind here at Enable, and none more so that The Smith Family.

At Enable, we are focused on investing in a child’s education, helping them break the cycle of disadvantage. That’s why Enable partners with The Smith Family.
By giving young Australians the extra support they need to fully participate in their education, we can prevent them from experiencing a lifetime of poverty.  We love working with The Smith Family towards our shared vision of a better future for young Australians in need.

This year we were invited to attend the “Great Big Thank You” event, where The Smith Family celebrate the organisations that support them throughout the year. Organisations just like Enable Professional Service.

The Smith Family like to show their supporters how their generosity and support makes a lasting difference to the lives of young Australians living in disadvantage. Because of the support, these little heroes can realise their potential and create better futures for themselves.

Our Perth Enabler Darren Everett attended, Joined The Smith Family CEO, Dr Lisa O’Brien, and Smith Family ambassador and 2019 Australian of the Year, Dr Craig Challen SC OAM. Craig was part of the international team that helped rescue 12 boys and their soccer coach from a flooded cave in Thailand in 2018.

Darren left feeling inspired by the event even saying, “WOW, what an inspiring event. Youth are our most valuable resource, and we need to nurture them.  It’s our job to break the cycle and make sure they are successful, I couldn’t be prouder of the support that Enable are able to provide to the next generation.”

At this years APJ conference, we provided the DWF with a $5000 cheque to continue their important conservation work. Our CSR Lead, Alison Lane, presented the giant cheque ( and the real one) to the animal handlers and our surprise guest Kimberley the Koala.
